About Me

Hello and thanks for stopping by! I’m Becky Smith, and this is my creative portfolio where you can find samples of my writing work, as well as other helpful links so you can learn more about what I do. But first, here’s a bit about me:

I was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, home of the world-famous Panos Restaurant and setting for the 1996 hit movie That Thing You Do! After a brief tenure as an infant, I relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, where I soon moved on to the world of toddlerhood, rompers, books, and precocity.

During my years in the Palmetto State, I experienced a shower of accolades, the most prestigious of which was likely when my hand-drawn rendition of My Little Pony was selected to be featured in a 1986 Highlights magazine. Many years later, I also studied journalism at the University of South Carolina, though many would say it paled in comparison to my earlier exploits — the Pony Years, as they are affectionately called by many. And by “many,” I mean mostly my mother.

In 2008, I earned a master’s degree in photojournalism and magazine writing from Boston University. My writing and photography work have been featured in both print and electronic media since 2002. I worked for several boutique photo studios in Boston and Nashville before making the switch to full-time marketing copywriter and content manager for a Nashville-based publishing company, where I worked for 8 years. I currently work as a freelance writer out of my Charlotte home, where I also bake pies and lasagnas.

I’ve recently written lifestyle stories for Charlotte Magazine and have helped local businesses with website content editing and marketing copy. If you need help with a writing or editing job, take a look at my portfolio and let me know how I can help.

When I’m not writing or taking pictures, I enjoy traveling, baking, running, collecting vintage dresses, killing house plants, and spending time with my husband, Allen; our two daughters, Mabel and Frances; and our wild rescue dogs who have no chill.

I look forward to working with you!
